What Aliens Know About Earth

To the alien outposts stationed just outside the Ionosphere, I imagine Earth resembles a fascinating but backward anthill. Maybe alien research teams have flocked to Earth for centuries to conduct post-graduate work in primitive anthropology, as our scientists flock to Borneo or the Amazon to study primitive societies there. Maybe Earth is a desirable listening post for aliens. They listen and, in moments of boredom, buzz the locals for thrills. But then again, maybe our fascinating little planet is so fascinating because it's composed of demented tribes of warlike bipeds.

Justices debate use of sacred tea

The Supreme Court debated Tuesday whether to let a small congregation in New Mexico worship with hallucinogenic tea, the first religious-freedom dispute under Chief Justice John Roberts.

Justice Sandra Day O'Connor seemed skeptical of the Bush administration's claim that the tea can be banned, but she may not be around to vote in the case.

Perhaps "The Bush Administration" would booze and cocaine instead?

The All-New Devil's Dictionary

21st Century Definitions for the Neo-Age:

America. Noun. Former republic, reportedly founded 1776, but which foundered soon thereafter. An exemplary idea, a belief better realized in abstract than actuality.

Anti-Semitism. Noun. Mistrust of Jews by non-Jewish people. Not to be confused with Semitism, the outright hatred and hostility of Semitic Jews and Arabs for each other. See Zionism.

Bush. Noun. Prolific shrub, non-native plant beloved by many for purely decorative purposes. Invasive, fast growing and tends to take over a garden. Shade tolerant.

Christianity. Noun. 2,000 year-old religion originally based on gentle non-violence. Now a worldwide cult transformed by conquest, persecution, money-making and cronyism. See Zionism.

Democratic Party. Archaic English. Defunct influence group. Now less powerful than PETA but featuring neutered males and spayed females nonetheless.

Elections. Controlled means of persuading the powerless to stand in line and prove their gullibility.

Evildoers. Anybody not with the US (and more than half of all Americans, according to recent polls). All foreigners, foreign-born, foreign-looking people, or the group Foreigner. All doers and thinkers of evil.

Government. Less than organized crime but on a larger scale. Uses strong arm methods where possible but prefers the lure of promotions, patriotism, bribes, medals, judgeships, cabinet positions and high senate offices, to secure unquestioning allegiance.

Government Appointment. A high bureaucratic post bestowed upon someone woefully unqualified by someone equally so. Lately, the higher the post, the least qualified the person.

Homeland Security. Cardboard castle created to install false sense of security on citizenry with heads in the sand.

Iraq. Mythical Garden of Eden and site of new Indiana Jones movie sequel entitled, Temple of Doom and Gloom.

Jihad. A foreign act of violent terrorism, religious inspired, wholly unrelated to pre-emptive strikes, unlawful occupation or nation-building.

Kean Commission. Belated glimpse into events loosely related to 9-11attack. Conducted by wealthy appointees overly concerned with arcane details, questioning key witnesses allowed to avoid pertinent testimony, finally buried under mountains of paperwork which resulted in a bestselling book.

Lottery. Legalized gambling by state government ostensibly for the benefit of public education, which magically never materializes. AKA “Lotto,” a form of addictive, non-prescription medicine. See Money.

Money. Fictitious wealth created by fictitious states and often called currency. Money is neither liquid nor solid but a vapor, or gas, pumped into the pockets of the populace to induce them to sleep. A pleasant, narcotic feeling occurs, “to have money,” and entire populations are thus controlled by colorful pieces of paper. An addictive substance—See Lottery—and side effects can be lethal: delusions of grandeur, ambition, murder, even treason.

MSM. Acronym (Mainstream Media). Happy lapdogs. Overfed pets who guard the nation. They sniff at felons, whimper at scoundrels, and wag their tails while the whole household is emptied. Satisfied at last, they lick their balls, confident the doorknobs are secure.

Nation-building. Conquest and occupation of one nation by another, for its own good.

NeoCons. Future convicts in a perfect world, role model in this one.

NineOneOne. (9-11) Formidable attack on US urban areas, never fully investigated (See CSI). Crime scenes hastily wrapped in flags, ribbons and black bunting and then hurriedly swept away when mainstream media (MSM) not looking. Forensics painstakingly examined the DNA at Fresh Kills but never examined the motives, means and opportunity of masterminds who benefited (See Government).

Osama Bin Laden. AKA Usama or OBL. Mastermind terrorist and World’s-most-wanted-criminal. Tall, bearded, ascetic Muslim who once lived in a cave. Evidently possesses superpower, since able to thwart FBI, CIA, NORAD and Pentagon. Reportedly invisible.

Pre-emptive Strike. Noun and verb. Democracy-building through creative bombardment. Military incursion to stop proliferation of weapons through use of superior weapons. See War.

Rap. Rhyming ghetto jargon intended to shock the mainstream, mostly white, society. Set to loud, monotonous music difficult to dance to. Meant to establish a voice for poor or powerless minorities but wholly adopted by poor and powerless white kids, who play it loudly after conquering poor and powerless countries.

Shock & Awe. Creative military jargon for quick air strikes using fancy expensive weapons instead of boring diplomacy. Also expected reaction—“shock & awe”--of next generation of Americans when bill for weaponry falls due.

Talk Radio. Blather for white people stuck in traffic who cannot rhyme or rap. Propaganda outlet for huddled masses who imagine they enjoy political power with the state but assuredly do not.

Televangelist. Animated actor in tailored suit with a gift of gab and a TV time slot. Capable of generating millions, allegedly for the Glory of God. Claims to knows Jesus personally; claims spiritual rebirth; claims to speak for God and vice versa (mostly the former). Allegedly Protestant (dating from the protests of Martin Luther), televangelists protest little nowadays. Should God and the state ever clash, actor always chooses the state—without protest. See Christianity.

Television. Contrived, artless programming for morons, by morons and about morons. Created to sell consumer products to over-indulged morons, not least of all the sale of acceptable ideas, societal behavior and political candidates.

War. Profitable enterprise thought up by think tanks, lobbyists, talk radio hosts, bored heads of state and religious nuts (Or anyone not directly involved in the fighting), for use of tax money extorted from otherwise peaceful citizens. War is the disease of the state disguised as a healthy, lawful enterprise.

WASP. The insects at the top of the food chain. Omnivorous, they can eat anything and often do. What they do not eat, they own. Except Zions and Catholics.

Zionism. New age mystic cult, mostly Jewish but also Wasp. Core beliefs are money-making, cronyism, conquest, control of MSM and Madonna, and of course, debased spirituality. Motto is, “By way of deception thou shalt make war.” See (modern) Christianity.

More Bush Insults

Everybody is good at something, and George Bush is good at insulting our intelligence.

(And his handlers are good at hypnotizing us. ZZZZZZZZ)

The Myth Of Peak Oil

Peak oil is a scam designed to create artificial scarcity and jack up prices while giving the state an excuse to invade our lives and order us to sacrifice our hard-earned living standards.

Publicly available CFR and Club of Rome strategy manuals from 30 years ago say that a global government needs to control the world population through neo-feudalism by creating artificial scarcity. Now that the social architects have de-industrialized the United States, they are going to blame our economic disintegration on lack of energy supplies.

Superior Court Judge Convicted of Sex Crimes with Boy

New Jersey Superior Court Judge Stephen W. Thompson, who traveled to Russia to have sex with a teenage boy, was convicted by a federal jury last week on a charge of sexual exploitation of children. The judge also produced a videotape of sex with a minor and then transported that videotape back to the United States. Judge Thompson is associated with the North American Man Boy Love Association, a group which promotes sexual relations between adult men and children. NAMBLA is currently represented by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).

It's this type of activity that puts the ACLU in the position of being ridiculed. "Civil Liberties" are a damn good thing to defend -- as in "Love" between two consenting adults. "Man-Boy Love" -- should that be defended as a "Civil Liberty"? It's not Liberty for the Boy when a Man takes advantage of him. Perhaps they are confusing "taking liberties" with someone with Liberty? Or. perhaps a certain number of the ACLU lawyers are themselves members of NAMBLA?

By posting this I'm not saying we should treat our prisoners like they're on a posh vacation. But, we should not be so 'holier than thou' by claiming we as Americans don't do this or that -- "oh, look "how they treat their people" -- but we're better than all that. No, we really are not. We are also capable of cruel and inhumane treatment. Yes, Virginia. Americans are quite capable of cruel and inhumane treatment.

Che Chic

You’ve probably seen one by now; perhaps you’ve even donned one. I’m referring to the mass market Che Guevara T-shirts. The image of the dead revolutionary icon has circulated the globe since the late ‘60s but has had a strong resurgence in recent years. Many popular entertainers, including Carlos Santana, have worn the fashionable tees. But does the image of Che really stand for any of the things that those who exhibit it think it does?

Those who wear the T-shirts think they are expressing revolutionary zeal. Was Che a revolutionary? In some respects he was, but once the Cuban revolution triumphed, Guevara seemed more than willing to join the powerful. He was second only to Castro, holding positions such as Minister of Industry and President of the National Bank of Cuba : not very revolutionary jobs by most standards. The results of his tenures at these positions (as well as that of the whole Cuban Revolution) were indisputable failures. Cuba ’s economy--once vibrant and a beacon financial success to Latin America --has yet to recover from the policies forcefully implemented by Guevara and his fellow revolutionaries.

Bush's Satanic Verses

He hears God – or does he?

...there is no limit to the arrogance of our leaders, who preen and pose on the world stage as "liberators" and are, in fact, the world's worst hypocrites.

...the president is claiming to be following direct orders from God, but the verdict of history is more likely to be that the Devil made him do it.

Security fears as flu virus that killed 50 million is recreated

Scientists have recreated the 1918 Spanish flu virus, one of the deadliest ever to emerge, to the alarm of many researchers who fear it presents a serious security risk.

Undisclosed quantities of the virus are being held in a high-security government laboratory in Atlanta, Georgia, after a nine-year effort to rebuild the agent that swept the globe in record time and claimed the lives of an estimated 50 million people.

We are so "smart" we humans. Another really good idea!

Who Did You Torture During The War, Daddy?

"We would give them blows to the head, chest, legs and stomach, and pull them down, kick dirt on them," one sergeant said. "This happened every day...We did it for amusement." Another soldier says detainees were beaten with a broken chemical light stick: "That made them glow in the dark, which was real funny, but it burned their eyes, and their skin was irritated real bad." An off-duty cook told an Iraqi prisoner "to bend over and broke the guy's leg with a ... metal bat." The sergeant continues: "I know that now. It was wrong. There are a set of standards. But you gotta understand, this was the norm."

Torture, condemned by civilized nations and their citizens since the Renaissance, has continued to be carried out in prisons and internment camps in every nation. But save for a few exceptions, such as France's overt torture of Algerian independence fighters during the late 1950s, it has been hidden away, lied about and condemned when exposed. Torture is shameful. It is never official policy.

That changed in the U.S. after 9/11. Current Attorney General Alberto Gonzales authored a convoluted legal memo to George W. Bush justifying torture. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld joked about forcing prisoners to stand all day and officially sanctioned keeping them naked and threatening them with vicious dogs. Ultimately, Bush declared that U.S. forces in Afghanistan would ignore the Geneva Conventions. By 2004, a third of Americans told pollsters that they didn't have a problem with torture.

Torture has been normalized.

Propaganda Redux

War is Peace, Ignorance is Bliss

Behind Winston's back the voice from the telescreen was still babbling away about pig-iron and the overfulfilment of the Ninth Three-Year Plan. The telescreen received and transmitted simultaneously. Any sound that Winston made, above the level of a very low whisper, would be picked up by it, moreover, so long as he remained within the field of vision which the metal plaque commanded, he could be seen as well as heard. There was of course no way of knowing whether you were being watched at any given moment. How often, or on what system, the Thought Police plugged in on any individual wire was guesswork. It was even conceivable that they watched everybody all the time. But at any rate they could plug in your wire whenever they wanted to. You had to live -- did live, from habit that became instinct -- in the assumption that every sound you made was overheard, and, except in darkness, every movement scrutinized.

Pentagon Eyes New Landmine

The George W. Bush administration may soon resume production of antipersonnel land mines in a move that is at odds with both the international community and previous U.S. policy on the weapons, says a leading human rights organization.

In December of this year, the Pentagon will decide whether or not to begin producing a new type of antipersonnel land mine called a ”Spider”. The first of these mines would then be scheduled to roll out in early 2007.

It’s like working in an insane asylum...

Depressed and demoralized White House staffers say working at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue is “life in a hellhole” as they try to deal with a sullen, moody President whose temper tantrums drive staffers crying from the room and bring the business of running the country to a halt.

“It’s like working in an insane asylum,” says one White House aide. “People walk around like they’re in a trance. We’re the dance band on the Titanic, playing out our last songs to people who know the ship is sinking and none of us are going to make it.”

When We Were Psychos

Sunday in the Park for George

They came to cheer for Bush’s war. They came to counter the anti war rally. They came to heap praise on their president for his leadership and wisdom. What a sorry group they were.

Their organizers had planned for thousands. The glitzy bandstand looked out on a sea of chairs prepared for a large turnout of real Americans to show their support for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. In the end, a meager few hundred souls showed up. They came to prop up their trusted leader and his blind commitment to staying the course. They failed quite miserably.

It wasn’t only the poor turn-out that made this event so pathetic. First, it was the exploitation of the dead. Family member after family member of a dead soldier thanked George Bush profusely for waging the war that took the life of their loved one. And second, it was the concerted effort to portray the anti war protesters as fools and traitors and left wing radicals. That, too, fell totally flat.

Torturous Silence on Torture

Where do American religious leaders stand on torture? Their deafening silence evokes memories of the unconscionable behavior of German church leaders in the 1930s and early 1940s.

Despite the hate whipped up by administration propagandists against those it brands "terrorists," most Americans agree that torture should not be permitted. Few seem aware, though, that although President George W. Bush says he is against torture, he has openly declared that our military and other interrogators may engage in torture "consistent with military necessity."

Electricity Turned On In New Orleans Neighborhood For Bush, Turned Off When He Left

I am duty-bound to report the talk of the New Orleans warehouse district last night: there was rejoicing (well, there would have been without the curfew, but the few people I saw on the streets were excited) when the power came back on for blocks on end. Kevin Tibbles was positively jubilant on the live update edition of Nightly News that we fed to the West Coast. The mini-mart, long ago cleaned out by looters, was nonetheless bathed in light, including the empty, roped-off gas pumps. The motorcade route through the district was partially lit no more than 30 minutes before POTUS drove through. And yet last night, no more than an hour after the President departed, the lights went out. The entire area was plunged into total darkness again, to audible groans. It's enough to make some of the folks here who witnessed it... jump to certain conclusions.

It is impossible to over-emphasize the extent to which this area is under government occupation, and portions of it under government-enforced lockdown. Police cars rule the streets. They (along with Humvees, ambulances, fire apparatus, FEMA trucks and all official-looking SUVs) are generally not stopped at checkpoints and roadblocks. All other vehicles are subject to long lines and snap judgments and must PROVE they have vital business inside the vast roped-off regions here. If we did not have the services of an off-duty law enforcement officer, we could not do our jobs in the course of a work day and get back in time to put together the broadcast and get on the air. As we are about to do.

The Coming Depression

Most of the world now realizes that the main reason for the USA to invade Iraq was to take its oil. What most governments, but few citizens, know, is that the rush to war was due to Saddam Hussain’s committing the high crime of accepting Euro dollars for oil under the “Oil for Food” program.

A Nation of Fools

My entire family is being played for fools by the power brokers in Washington; and they don't even have a clue about how they are being manipulated. I am embarrassed for them. The truth is out there; but no one is bringing it to our door step. You have to look hard. You have to want to know the facts. You have to care about social justice; and that requires effort; it requires living with a troubled conscience and trying to set things right. It requires that you inform yourself and make an effort to change things. The trouble is that most Americans don't want to know the truth because it would make them uncomfortable. So they turn their heads the other way and allow themselves to be distracted from their civic and patriotic duties. It is easier to display the flag and plaster their cars with 'Support our troops' stickers. This mode of being requires no real effort; nor accountability.

They're vultures!

So, I'm reading about this company, "Kenyon International", a "Houston based" company who got the cherry deal to mop up the bodies of the Hurricane Katrina disaster and I'm wondering what the ties are to the Bushies. Hell, Houston? Say no more! So I look just a tiny bit deeper and see that Kenyon is a "wholly owned subsidiary" of SCI. Then I find this:

Service Corporation International or SCI is a corporation based in Houston, Texas which runs one of the largest chains of funeral homes in the world with over 3800 funeral homes, 40000 employees, and revenues of $2.4 billion dollars. It operates in 18 countries in five continents and is traded on the New York Stock Exchange.

In contrast to many other large corporations, SCI tries to keep an extremely low profile. Typically, a funeral home that is owned by SCI will not have any trace of the corporation, and the corporation does not actively publicize its existence. In many cases, SCI will buy a pre-existing funeral home with a long history and keep the name, the family history, and be otherwise invisible.

This is largely because grieving families would much rather deal with what appears to be a small mom and pop funeral home than a large corporation. This leads to the odd situation that most customers of SCI do not even know that they are dealing with this corporation.

In recent years, SCI has liquidated most of its overseas assets and has brought to the forefront a brand of funeral service called Dignity Memorial.

Scandal
In the late 1990's, SCI was involved in a scandal in which the remains of a number of people were desecrated in a cemetery that the company owned. The cemetery was found to have been "recycling" graves - removing the remains of previous burials and placing other people in the graves.

The scandal took on an extra political dimension - company chairman Robert Waltrip was a friend of President Bush's family. He had made a number of campaign contributions to the Bush family over the years.

The scandal grew even further when Eliza May - a director with the Texas Funeral Service Commission - was fired while investigating SCI. She alleged in a lawsuit that she was fired because she refused to halt the investigation despite pressure from then Governor George W. Bush to halt the investigation into SCI's practices. However other members of the commission indicated that she was fired because others in the office had lost confidence in her, and that she was using her authority in an inappropriate manner.

May's lawyers tried to compel Bush to testify at the trial, but Texas Judge John K. Dietz threw out the subpoena that would've required Bush to give a deposition. Bush opponents claimed that this decision was politically motivated due to him campaigning at the time for the Republican party's nomination for President. Bush supporters claimed that the judge was correct to throw out the subpoena - that the suit was a partisan attempt to damage his chances of receiving the party's nomination for President. May's lawsuit was settled in November of 2001 for $210,000. SCI paid $55,000 and the state paid the balance

Oh yeah, there's more. But, I'm going to go throw up now.

Blackwater Mercenaries: Coming Soon to Your Town!

It is now obvious how martial law (not officially declared as such) will work in America in the wake of the devastation of New Orleans. Instead of federal troops or an influx of National Guard troops sent to “restore order” (the latter mandated in our now anachronistic Constitution; see Article 1, Section 8) and empowered to “suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions,” in Louisiana the state and federal governments have brazenly violated the Constitution by sending in Blackwater Security and other private goon squads. “Heavily armed paramilitary mercenaries from the Blackwater private security firm, infamous for their work in Iraq, are openly patrolling the streets of New Orleans,” write Jeremy Scahill and Daniela Crespo. “Some of the mercenaries say they have been ‘deputized’ by the Louisiana governor; indeed some are wearing gold Louisiana state law enforcement badges on their chests and Blackwater photo identification cards on their arms. They say they are on contract with the Department of Homeland Security and have been given the authority to use lethal force.”

WAKE UP PEOPLE!

"How fortunate for leaders, that the masses do not think." - Hitler

Last night, while watching ABC's Nightly "News" program, I witnessed the single most frightening thing I have yet to witness as an American. They showed the National Guard/Army going door to door in New Orleans. Not in a flooded area mind you, but in what they described as the "driest and wealthest" areas of New Orleans. Door to door, banging on the doors, entering each and every home, either by homeowners allowing them in or by force...they were breaking into locked homes and it showed this on TV. They were taking guns away from people. Full out gun confiscation from law abiding citizens who had those guns to protect their families and their property. And they broke into a church and used it as a base. Since the Pastor wasn't there to "ask permission" they said they would "leave a note" A direct violation of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Amendments to our Bill of Rights going on in full force in New Orleans! Total Police State Tyranny in full swing right here, right now!

Murder and mayhem in New Orleans' miserable shelter

After reading about this super-duper "shelter" the State set up for these folks, hell, I'd take my chances on the street. Support your 2nd Amendment rights - now more than ever!

Defining Anarchy

Anarchy is a functioning society free of government controls. That is individual persons operating together in harmony based on freely reached agreements concluded between individual members and groups of a society. Anarchy is simply a free society. Anarchy is not the result of a statist-government failure; that would be chaos. The chaos in New Orleans is not due to anarchy, it is an example of the failure of statist-government.

People have said and written to me that: “See, anarchy can’t work because look at what happened in New Orleans when there was no government.” To define anarchy as statist-government failure is such an obvious distortion of the concept of a free society that it is hard to decide where to begin to dismantle such thoughtlessness. I like to begin by simply pointing out that at least four layers of statist-government agencies still claim jurisdiction over the area known as New Orleans (city, parish, state and federal). The undeniable fact is that they all four failed to provide the services they had promised to provide when they were justifying the theft of individual resources called taxes.

It boggles the mind how one can point to obvious failure to live up to political promises as a way to abdicate the responsibility of politicians to live up to those promises. Of course statist-governments never have and never will provide what they have promised. They simply return promising more and more if only they could have more power and more money. Next time, politicians promise, things will be different, better. Politics is just a show, and the curtain was pulled back in New Orleans .

Homeland Security won't let Red Cross deliver food

New Orleans Left to the Dead and Dying

Thousands more bedraggled refugees were bused and airlifted to salvation Saturday, leaving the heart of New Orleans to the dead and dying, the elderly and frail stranded too many days without food, water or medical care.

No one knows how many were killed by Hurricane Katrina's floods and how many more succumbed waiting to be rescued. But the bodies are everywhere: hidden in attics, floating among the ruined city, crumpled on wheelchairs, abandoned on highways.

And the dying goes on - at the convention center and an airport triage center, where bodies were kept in a refrigerated truck.

New Orleans, or what's left of it, awoke Friday to discover that fire had been added to the array of pestilences - floodwaters, hunger, looting and mass death - that have beset the city since Hurricane Katrina's winds ripped it apart five days ago.

The "soul" of a lawyer.

Well, here it is folks! Here is a PRIME EXAMPLE of what's in the "heart" and "soul" of a LAWYER:

"Monday, August 29, 2005

I can't get local counsel in New Orleans to answer their phone, and I don't know why. I wrote a few weeks ago about the incompetence of local counsel in cities across the country, and this is just the latest example. They'd better have a good reason for this, and it had better be more than just some rain."

This was written the day a cat 4-5 hurricane had hit the city. All this cold-hearted orb could think about was himself.

Want to be sick to your stomach? Read this bastard's musings: Anonymous Lawyer

(Update: After I sent an email to this joker telling him what a piece of crap I thought he was he removed his post from 8/29. Ha! What's that? An attack of conscience? Oh, but wait -- this is a LAWYER we're talking about -- no conscience there.)

UPDATE TO THE UPDATE: I was so incensed this morning when I read the Anonymous Lawyer's 8/29 post that I sent him this email:

"> "I can't get local counsel in New Orleans to answer
> their phone, and I don't know why. I wrote a few
> weeks ago about the incompetence of local counsel in
> cities across the country, and this is just the
> latest example. They'd better have a good reason for

TAKE THIS JOB AND SHOVE IT!

So, I quit my job yesterday. I can ill afford to do such a thing. I am poor and I just took a giant leap to being much poorer. I almost made it in that place for 2 years! In only 2 months it would have been 2 years. But, somewhere along the way I found that I have scruples and morals and that my labor should be spent towards a greater good for this planet, not to be used for furthering the agenda of a bunch of crows, nay, jackels who pick at the carcasses of humanity. Imagine working for people who won't practice common courtesy: hello, goodbye, thank you, you're welcome, etc. And this man I was working for mainly, no heart, no soul, and no testicles. He wouldn't even look me in the eye and tell me that he was unhappy with my performance -- instead he was just rude to me and complained about me to other people. We just did not see eye to eye. I worked my behind off, I did everything that was asked of me and then some, and what did I get for it? NOTHING!

Oh, and people (er, lizards) I know the difference between THEIR, THEY'RE and THERE...I knew it before I ever started working for you and I'll remember it after ...no need to spell it out for me! How's this for an example: "I no longer wish to work there as they're a bunch of vultures who think their shit doesn't stink!" said the disgruntled worker bee as she stumbled out of the hive.

Bush says anti-war protests threaten to weaken the United States

DONNELLY, Idaho (AP) - President George W. Bush said Tuesday that anti-war protesters such as Cindy Sheehan, who want U.S. troops brought home immediately, are "advocating a policy that would weaken the United States."

In remarks to reporters outside an exclusive resort where he is vacationing, Bush gave no indication that he would change his mind and meet with Sheehan when he returns to his Texas ranch Wednesday evening.

The Trillion-Dollar War

August 20, 2005
The Trillion-Dollar War
By LINDA BILMES
Cambridge, Mass.

THE human cost of the more than 2,000 American military personnel killed and 14,500 wounded so far in Iraq and Afghanistan is all too apparent. But the financial toll is still largely hidden from public view and, like the suffering of those who have lost loved ones, will persist long after the fighting is over.

The cost goes well beyond the more than $250 billion already spent on military operations and reconstruction. Basic running costs of the current conflicts are $6 billion a month - a figure that reflects the Pentagon's unprecedented reliance on expensive private contractors. Other factors keeping costs high include inducements for recruits and for military personnel serving second and third deployments, extra pay for reservists and members of the National Guard, as well as more than $2 billion a year in additional foreign aid to Jordan, Pakistan, Turkey and others to reward their cooperation in Iraq and Afghanistan. The bill for repairing and replacing military hardware is $20 billion a year, according to figures from the Congressional Budget Office.

But the biggest long-term costs are disability and health payments for returning troops, which will be incurred even if hostilities were to stop tomorrow. The United States currently pays more than $2 billion in disability claims per year for 159,000 veterans of the 1991 gulf war, even though that conflict lasted only five weeks, with 148 dead and 467 wounded. Even assuming that the 525,000 American troops who have so far served in Iraq and Afghanistan will require treatment only on the same scale as their predecessors from the gulf war, these payments are likely to run at $7 billion a year for the next 45 years.

All of this spending will need to be financed by adding to the federal debt. Extra interest payments will total $200 billion or more even if the borrowing is repaid quickly. Conflict in the Middle East has also played a part in doubling the price of oil from $30 a barrel just prior to the invasion of Iraq in March 2003 to $60 a barrel today. Each $5 increase in the price of oil reduces our national income by about $17 billion a year.

Even by this simple yardstick, if the American military presence in the region lasts another five years, the total outlay for the war could stretch to more than $1.3 trillion, or $11,300 for every household in the United States.

Linda Bilmes, an assistant secretary at the Department of Commerce from 1999 to 2001, teaches budgeting and public finance at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard.

'My God, what have we done?'

Sixty years ago tomorrow, the crew of the Enola Gay watched in awe as their payload detonated over the city of Hiroshima. "As the bomb exploded, we saw the entire city disappear," said Commander Robert Lewis. "I wrote in my log, 'My God, what have we done?'"

Below, thousands of people were instantly carbonised in a blast that was thousands of times hotter than the sun's surface; further from the epicentre, birds ignited in mid-flight, eyeballs popped and internal organs were sucked from bodies of victims.

FBI, Please Protect Us from Terrorists and the ACLU

The FBI has historically spied on people with political views outside the establishment’s approved norms. On the other hand, the FBI failed miserably in the months leading up to 9/11, despite repeated and clear warning signs pointing to some of the hijackers. Meanwhile, it continues to squander resources enforcing laws against gambling, drugs, prostitution, and other activities for which there is no logical or Constitutional reason for federal involvement. Given all this, the FBI’s tracking of peaceful political groups seems not only unwarranted, but downright ominous for liberty.

Zen and the Art of Iraqi Regime Change

That Zen-like question arises from an interview the Associated Press recently published with Douglas Feith, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld’s departing chief policy advisor. Hiroshima and Nagasaki: Worst terror attacks in history

A tiny group of US rulers met secretly in Washington and callously ordered this indiscriminate annihilation of civilian populations. They gave no explicit warnings. They rejected all alternatives, preferring to inflict the most extreme human carnage possible. They ordered and had carried out the two worst terror acts in human history.

The 60th anniversaries will inevitably be marked by countless mass media commentaries and speeches repeating the 60-year-old mantra that there was no other choice but to use A-bombs in order to avoid a bitter, prolonged invasion of Japan.

On July 21, the British New Scientist magazine undermined this chorus when it reported that two historians had uncovered evidence revealing that “the US decision to drop atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki ... was meant to kick-start the Cold War [against the Soviet Union, Washington's war-time ally] rather than end the Second World War”. Peter Kuznick, director of the Nuclear Studies Institute at the American University in Washington stated that US President Harry Truman's decision to blast the cities “was not just a war crime, it was a crime against humanity”.

Tommy Thompson Gets Chip Implant

Implanted microchips are getting a plug from a heavy hitter - former Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson.

Scott McDonald of the Web site Scan This News once noted: "A lifetime of information can be easily databased using a microchip system. All movement, transactions, and interactions can be recorded and monitored once everyone has their own unique identifier. Every detail of a person's life will be finally accessible to authorities through the widespread use of implanted chips ... it must begin somewhere and school children are the most likely candidate."

You can damnbetcha that there has been and will be opposition to implanting children and the destruction of privacy. However, McDonald suggests, "Some will holler: 'The Constitution this, and the Constitution that.' But only those social misfits, kooks, and rebels with something to hide will hold out strongly."

Oh yeah? Even those social misfits, kooks, and rebels with NOTHING to hide STILL object.

"Little will they know, the very act of objecting, in itself, will suffice to 'identify' them as trouble-makers," continues McDonald. "They can then be arrested and force-chipped as part of the booking process! Besides, most Americans – after they've been reminded of all benefits and services they will sacrifice if they refuse – will soon acquiesce. This is how it worked when Congress enacted laws to coerce parents into numbering their children at birth. A few grumbled for a short while. But, once the threat of no longer being able to claim their children on tax returns set in, they got right in line down at the Social Security Administration and had their children numbered."

CHE NEY

Having Custody Is Just Another Excuse for Cruelty, Torture and Murder

Bush threatened to veto a $442 billion defense spending bill “if legislation is presented that would restrict the president’s authority to protect Americans effectively from terrorist attack and bring terrorists to justice.”

What bothers the administration is an amendment to the bill, a rider if you will, sponsored by Senator John McCain, that would prohibit “ ‘cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment’ of anyone in the custody of the U. S. government.” The profligate spending is okay, it’s just that restriction on being able to arbitrarily torture and murder people without question that’s the problem. That’s what Bush’s people mean when they say “bring terrorists to justice.” A “terrorist,” of course, is any person who is suspected of forcibly resisting the incursion of U.S. imperial forces, proven or not.

The shoot to kill policy was undertaken under the auspices of "Operation Kratos", named after the mythical Spartan hero. It was carried out by the London Metropolitan's elite SO19 firearms unit often referred to as the Blue Berets. The latter are described as the equivalent to the US SWAT teams, yet in this particular case, they were not wearing uniforms.

WAR is a racket

It always has been.

A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of the people. Only a small "inside" group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few, at the expense of the very many. Out of war a few people make huge fortunes.

The top 15 reasons to doubt the official story of Sept. 11, 2001

Genesis of an American Gestapo

The formation of the Bush Gestapo overturns long held precedents for maintaining the independence of law enforcement agencies. Those guidelines have been summarily discarded by the administration, just as they have been ignored by the collaborative media. The nation's steep descent into despotism was barely greeted with a whimper of protest from the mainstream press. The editors of the New York Times applauded the changes as a sign of progress; a step forward in making America safer and "breaking down walls" between foreign and domestic agencies. This is true; there are many cumbersome "barriers" between the President and absolute power but, for all practical purposes, those have now been effectively removed. Notwithstanding the NY Time's perky assessment, the deleterious effects on the American people will be felt for decades to come.

Movement builds to seize Souter home

Supreme Court Justice David Souter probably never expected his vote to permit a Connecticut town the power to seize the homes of citizens would come back to haunt him. But it may. An effort by a Los Angeles advertising entrepreneur to persuade the city fathers of Weare, N.H., to turn the tables on Souter by seizing his home and building a hotel on the site is gaining steam.

The Lost Liberty Hotel Project

The Supreme Court ruled that city governments should be allowed to take private property from one person and give it to a developer. So we decided that 34 Cilley Hill Road in Weare, New Hampshire would be a nice place to build The Lost Liberty Hotel. Why is this location essential? It is the home of David Souter, one of the Justices that voted in favor of this decision.

Saving a Dying Corpse

An Associated Press news report told of 1,900 sheep following one another over a cliff in Turkey, resulting in the deaths of 450. The sheep had been grazing when, without explanation, some members of the herd began leaping from the cliff. The others followed the lead, providing an example of “sheepish” behavior.

What a fitting metaphor for the herd-oriented behavior of humans. Political systems – along with various corporate interests that have produced the homogeneous corporate-state – have succeeded in getting people to organize themselves into opposing herds. These multitudes are placed under the leadership of persons who function like “Judas goats,” a term derived from the meat-packing industry. Judas goats are trained to lead sheep to the slaughterhouse, slipping safely away as the others are led to the butcher. Political leaders take their flocks to the deadly precipice, depart to the safety of their bunkers, and allow herd instincts to play out their deadly course. With the help of the media, Bush, Blair, Cheney, Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld, Rice, et al., perform the Judas goat function quite well, rousing the herds into a “let’s you and him fight” mindset without occasioning the loss of their own blood. You will not see any of these smug, arrogant creatures in the front lines of battle: that is the purpose served by the “masses” (i.e., the “herds”).

With its newly-concocted perpetual war upon an unseen enemy – combined with greatly expanded police powers – the established order seeks to force free men and women back into the herd upon which its violent control over life depends. That we may take our places in the serried ranks set out for us by the state so that we remain subservient to the state, is the purpose underlying the present “war on terror.” As with the sheep in Turkey, the consequence will be that we will follow one another over cliffs leading to our mutual destruction. In the tapestry of human history, it is but the latest expression of the state’s continuing war against life.

Does Anyone Really Believe This Horseshit?

British authorities finger patsies within days of bombings, country drinks it up, and it’s like Déjà vu all over again!

LONDON, ENGLAND -- (OfficialWire) -- 07/14/05 -- Give me a break. Four young men, maybe five though one chap remains a secret at present, simply decided to blow themselves up in support of a cause none of them had ever previously mentioned to their families, friends or anyone who knew them. Does that sound right?

In fact, UK intelligence agencies had never heard of these guys. They, the alleged London bombers, had everything to live for and no motive in becoming suicide bombers. Do you believe that?

Before you sign onto the government's official story, read a recent article by Paul Joseph Watson, How the Government Staged the London Bombings in Ten Easy Steps. The truth will set you free.

So forget "Rove-gate" and get ready for "Cheney-gate." Defending conspiracy "crackpots"

Those who suffer from conspiracy phobia are fond of saying: Do you actually think there's a group of people sitting around in a room plotting things? For some reason that image is assumed to be so patently absurd as to invite only disclaimers. But where else would people of power get together on park benches or carousels? Indeed, they meet in rooms: corporate boardrooms, Pentagon command rooms, at the Bohemian Grove, in the choice dining rooms at the best restaurants, resorts, hotels, and estates, in the many conference rooms at the White House, the NSA, the CIA, or wherever. And, yes, they consciously plot though they call it planning and strategizin and they do so in great secrecy, often resisting all efforts at public disclosure. ...

Yet there are individuals who ask with patronizing, incredulous smiles, do you really think that the people at the top have secret agendas, are aware of their larger interests, and talk to each other about them? To which I respond, why would they not?

The above is from an excellent post by a fellow blogger. I, for one, fully believe in what King George sez and I will not tolerate outrageous conspiracy theories which might attempt to shift blame. After all, any idea or thought which has not been firmly planted in my brain by the governimmediatelybe immediatly dismissed as a conspriacy theory so as to discredit not only the thought but especially the source of the thought. Kill the messenger I say, especially when the message is not one which you agree with!

I, for one, gladly admit to the embracing of any conspiracy theory for which there is credible evidence. But those who condemn me for my views never seem interested in examining the evidence, their purposes being more to prevent the raising of discomforting questions. Having read a good deal of history over the years, I ask my critics to account for the countless foreign intrigues, plots, assassinations, alliances, and other cabals that have been at the heart of so much of the history of the world. Do Shakespeare's tragedies, almost all of which are grounded in conspiracies of one kind or another have nothing to teach us about the machinations of human behavior?

A Study of 9/11 And A View Of Who Was Behind It

There are of course those who have fallen under the hypnotic spell of the TV talking-heads and "experts" whom they worship as authority figures. Unaccustomed to thinking for themselves, no amount of truth can sway them from their preconceived prejudices. They will even deny that which they see with their own eyes.

They are victims of a psychological affliction known as "the lemming effect". Lemmings are small rodents who have been known to follow each other as they charge to their deaths into raging rivers or off of cliffs. Lemminghood is an innate psychological phenomenon, present in most mammals and observable in common people as well as the most sophisticated and educated elites. Lemminghood is not an intellectual phenomenon - it is psychological. As such, no socio-economic class is immune to its strangulating effect. A grant- seeking university scientist can be a lemming just as much as a fashion obsessed teen-age girl. One blindly follows the latest trendy theory while the other blindly follows the latest trendy clothing style. What's the difference? Neither can resist the force of nature.

Are you a thinker or a lemming? Do you have what it takes to break free? If so, read on!

Cui Bono Revisited

Cui Bono is not the rock musician who fashions himself mankind’s ambassador to the governments of the world. It is, rather, the question asked when an official was murdered in ancient Rome: "who benefited"? It is the question gullible minds have long forgotten to ask themselves following politically-motivated atrocities.

This is an opportune time for intelligent men and women to begin formulating their own questions, rather than continuing to internalize answers fed to them by those with an interest in conditioning their minds. Such an inquiry ought to include the possibility that some of these events might be the product of provocateuring (i.e., the political establishment engineering attacks in order to arouse public sentiment on behalf of expanded police powers and a war agenda). The very existence of the word admits of its historic role in matters political. The burning of the German Reichstag facilitated Hitler’s rise to power, while Roosevelt’s conscious efforts to bring about the bombing of Pearl Harbor made it possible for him to overcome public opposition to entering the war.

War for oil in the Middle East; Environmental disturbances on a global scale; The rich receive tax cuts while the Bill of Rights and services for the poor are gutted.

We recognize that the Bohemians have full control of the reigns of power and wealth and they are using those reigns to steer a course toward destruction.

Happy "Interdependence" Day

All these well-meaning, useful idiots. It's really pathetic. Do they really think this campaign will change the way of the International Bankers? The IB's "loan" the money to nations that have no means of actual "monetary" repayment. they do so knowing full well that what they will ultimately get for their "loan" is to take over "rights" to the beholden nation's resources. It's a scam that's been going on for years. But, hey...make a donation to Bob Geldoff's troupe and certainly the International Banker's and their stooge front men will change their ways and "forgive" all the "debt" and "end poverty."

CAN YOU SEE THE DANGERS NOW?

Shocking New Developments In Supreme Court vs. Homeowners Case

News Media Blackout On 'Revving Bulldozers,' Intimidation And Harassment Of New London Residents

America has been reacting with overwhelming revulsion over the past two days to the Supreme Court's decision that local governments can force property owners to sell out and make way for private economic development when officials decide it would benefit the public, even if the property is not blighted, and the new project's success is not guaranteed.

However, shocking details that cast this entire farce in its true light have flown under the radar of mainstream media reports.

A DARK DAY

Yesterday was a dark day in the history of the united States of America. In a 5 - 4 ruling, the Supreme Court Just Us's decided that government may now seize your private property to be turned over to private developers merely on the basis that the private developers will build something in place of your home that projects to bring in more tax dollars to the government coffers. Every single ideal that this country was founded on is being systematically destroyed. Every day they chop away at the tree of liberty, but yesterday they took a CHAIN SAW to it!

It is as simple as this:

"I am the government and I want your property John Q Citizen."

"But, Mr. Government, I'm sorry I do not wish to sell my property to you. It's been in my family for generations. Mother Citizen passed it down to me, and Grandmother Citizen passed it to mother, as far back as 4 generations! I do not wish to sell it!"

"I don't care about your family history, John. You see, Mr. Merck over here, he tells me he will build a 125,000 foot research and development complex on this land, and throw in a few upscale condos and retail chain stores for balance. By doing so Mr. Merck promises to increase the tax revenue we will receive from this piece of land and tax revenue is far more worthy that your perceived rights to this property! We'll send over the papers in the morning!" (hearty chuckle)

"But no! I refuse to sell my property, Mr. Government! Not to you! Not to anyone!"

"There's no sense in fighting us John. The courts are on our side. Just sign the paper!"

"So, you tell me I MUST sell my property? Sally Q. Neighbor told me last year she would pay me $250,000 for this property so if I MUST sell it, then I want $250,000 for it!"

"John, you must be mistaken! We have had your property "appraised" and we will give you $200,000 for it."

"What! But, I just called Sally and she said her offer still stands! She will pay me $250,000!"

"(Laughs) That's very amusing, John. I don't think you understand. This is not a "free market." We will not give you what the property could be worth on the open market. WE decide what your property is worth and we decide what we will pay you and we have decided that your property is worth $200,000 and that is final!"

And so it goes.... MAKE WAY FOR THE BULLDOZERS COMING TO YOUR DOOR STEP NEXT!

Deadly immunity

When a study revealed that mercury in childhood vaccines may have caused autism in thousands of kids, the government rushed to conceal the data -- and to prevent parents from suing drug companies for their role in the epidemic.

SHIT HAPPENS

And so now, even the Americans who have died in Iraq are a taboo subject, if not approached with careful politically correct patriotic fervor. To bring them up in a negative tone, rather than as a toast to the war effort, is in fact to aid the enemy. Seventeen hundred American lives is suddenly something we should regard, if not with accolades, then with casual acknowledgement. We living Americans are overly squeamish about American wartime deaths, we are told by the manlier among us, for they are trivial when compared to the glory of the U.S. nation-state itself. Now that the main selling point of the war as an act to protect American lives has been completely demolished, the continued sacrifice of American lives by the government is still defended, but on more tenuous grounds: people die in war, and this war to dispose of the brutally murderous Saddam and establish democracy in Iraq will certainly be proved to have been worth it.

That dog still ain't barking!

On 9-11, with an unknown number of planes flying across the country crashing into buildings, with the President's presence at Booker Elementary announced in the media three days before, and an airport just four miles away, how did the United States Secret Service Protective Detail know for a fact that they did not need to throw President Bush into his armored limousine and start driving in any direction to foil an inbound threat? How did the United States Secret Service Protective Detail know for a fact that by keeping all those kids in that same room with Bush, that they were not risking their lives with a potential inbound jet? How did the United States Secret Service Protective Detail know for a fact that President Bush was safe where he sat, reading about goats, waiting for his speech?

LIBERTY: Under Attack ..Then and Now!

During the Six Day War between Israel and the Arab States, the American intelligence ship USS Liberty was attacked for 75 minutes in international waters by Israeli aircraft and motor torpedo boats. Thirty-four men died and 172 were wounded.

'The USS Liberty': America's Most Shameful Secret
The Israeli warships closed and poured machine gun fire into the crowded life rafts, sinking two. As American sailors were being massacred in cold blood, a rescue mission by US Sixth Fleet carrier aircraft was mysteriously aborted on orders from the White House.

Fifteen years after the attack, an Israeli pilot approached Liberty survivors and then held extensive interviews with former Congressman Paul N. (Pete) McCloskey about his role. According to this senior Israeli lead pilot, he recognized the Liberty as American immediately, so informed his headquarters, and was told to ignore the American flag and continue his attack. He refused to do so and returned to base, where he was arrested.

Parents Are Right to Protect Their Children from the Military

Obviously, the biggest reason for parents’ opposition to the military’s recruitment efforts would be to protect their children from losing their lives and limbs for no valid purpose. After all, ask yourself: What parents would place a higher value on the installation of an Islamic Shi’ite regime in Iraq, even a democratically elected one, than they would on the life or limbs of their own child? (US officials, of course, do claim that the deaths and maiming of US personnel, as well at the deaths and maiming of tens of thousands of Iraqis, have been worth it.)

How Do You Know You Are Free?

It's a good question, because unless you know by what standard you should measure freedom, you cannot know if you really ARE free.

Let's get personal. How do YOU rate your own freedom? And what is it that defines the freedom you think you have? How would you answer the following?

Are you able to start a business without bureaucratic overload? Are you able to cut down a tree in your own back yard? Are you able to keep the money you earn? Are you able to smoke marijuana? Are you able to read any book, or see any movie? Are you able to express your opinion without fear? Are you able to gamble at offshore online casinos? Are you able to travel without undue harassment? Are you able to buy, sell or trade whatever you like? Are you able to keep your personal information private?

The list could go on, but you get the drift.

Freedom, when it comes down to the wire, is the ability to make choices about your own life and property. Freedom is NOT about negating the same choices for other people. So, I cannot claim the freedom to steal another's property. Freedom can only be related to actions which do not impinge on someone else's freedom.

'Culture of life' doesn't apply to Iraq

As a longtime fan of both George Bushes' eccentric grasp of English, I naturally enjoyed this gem from W.: "See, in my line of work, you got to keep repeating things over and over and over again for the truth to sink in, to kind of catapult the propaganda." (Bush in Greece, N.Y., May 24, once more explaining his Social Security plan to a town hall meeting of perfectly average citizens, except they had all been pre-screened to allow only those who agree with him into the hall.)

"Catapulting the propaganda" would explain his performance at the press opportunity that same day at which he appeared surrounded by babies born from frozen embryos. He used the phrase "culture of life" at least 27 dozen times. "The use of federal dollars to destroy life is something I simply do not support," he said to the press the following day.

Meanwhile, back in Baghdad, federal dollars are being used to destroy life at a pretty good clip because Bush decided to wage an entirely elective war against a country that presented little or no threat to us. And according to the Downing Street memo, he damn well knew it, too.

Pentagon details mishandling of Quran

...water balloons thrown by prison guards caused an unspecified number of Qurans to get wet; a guardÂ’s urine came through an air vent and splashed on a detainee and his Quran; and in a confirmed but ambiguous case, a two-word obscenity was written in English on the inside cover of a Quran.

The radio "news" is reporting that "urine was inadvertentlyy splashed on a Quran. Excuse me? How does one "inadvertently" splash URINE on a Quran? I guess I should ask Don and his gang for the answer to that question."

Horror of USA's depleted Uranium

'Depleted' uranium is in many ways a misnomer. 'Depleted' sounds weak. The only weak thing about depleted uranium is its price. It is dirt cheap, toxic, waste from nuclear power plants and bomb production. However, uranium is one of earth's heaviest elements and DU packs a Tyson's punch, smashing through tanks, buildings and bunkers with equal ease, spontaneously catching fire as it does so, and burning people alive. 'Crispy critters' is what US servicemen call those unfortunate enough to be close. And, when John Pilger encountered children killed at a greater distance he wrote: "The children's skin had folded back, like parchment, revealing veins and burnt flesh that seeped blood, while the eyes, intact, stared straight ahead. I vomited."

US media censor uranium weapons stories

A dedication in 2120 might say: Dedicated to the memory of the Iraqi people. Many people believe Iraq was the birthplace of civilization some 5,000 years ago. Iraq was destroyed and radioactively contaminated in an early 21st Century Oil War by a fascist world power, now extinguished.

Memorial Day should be renamed Mourning Day

The pipeline that will change the world

The first drops of crude will snake their way along a pipeline that traverses some of the most unstable and war-ravaged countries on earth.

A huge 11-year-long undertaking, the pipeline will transform the Caucasus and Turkey into an energy bridge between the Caspian and the rest of the world when it is fully operational six months from now.

But much of the gleam of that accomplishment was worn away over the past week by Azerbaijan when police badly beat and arrested scores of people attending a peaceful rally on Saturday as part of a wider crackdown linked to the pipeline's opening.

Neoconomics in One Lesson

This essential truth should not be surprising, as it is the very nature of government to suck up the resources of the population it purports to “govern,” in times of relative peace as well as in times of war. There is absolutely no way that government can “create” anything--it can only take away or destroy. That’s all it can do. If it is “providing” something to someone, it is doing so only by the means of taking something away from someone else. To forcibly transfer something from one individual’s hands to another’s is, obviously, not really “providing,” it’s stealing, and indeed it is destroying, as the plundered individual gets absolutely nothing in exchange. The State is a parasitic leech.

Galloway v the US Senate

In quotes: the Galloway showdown

Some of the quotes from British MP George Galloway as he confronted his accusers on a US Senate sub-committee.

"Who paid me hundreds of thousands of dollars? The answer to that is nobody and if you had anybody who paid me a penny you would have produced them here today."

"I have met Saddam Hussein exactly the same number of times as Donald Rumsfeld met him. The difference is that Donald Rumsfeld met him to sell him guns and to give him maps the better to target those guns."

"You traduced my name around the world without ever having asked me a single question, without ever having contacted me, without ever having written to me or telephoned me, without any contact with me whatsoever and you call that justice."

"Senator [Norm Coleman, committee chairman], this is the mother of all smoke screens. You are trying to divert attention from the crimes that you supported from the theft of billions of dollars of Iraq's wealth."

"You have nothing on me Senator [Coleman], except my name on lists of names in Iraq, many of which were drawn up after the installation of your puppet government in Iraq."

"I have never seen a barrel of oil, owned one, bought one, sold one, and neither has anybody on my behalf."

"I know that standards have slipped over the last few years in Washington but for a lawyer you are remarkably cavalier with any idea of justice."

"One of the most serious mistakes you have made in this set of documents is such a schoolboy howler it makes a fool of the efforts you have made."

"Senator [Coleman], in everything I said about Iraq I turned out to be right and you turned out to be wrong and 100,000 have paid with their lives, 1,600 of them American soldiers sent to their deaths on a pack of lies."

``Rods from God''

President George W. Bush is expected to issue a directive in the next few weeks giving the U.S. air force a green light for the development of space weapons, potentially triggering a new global arms race, it was reported on Wednesday.

The new weapons being studied range from hunter-killer satellites to orbiting weapons using lasers, radio waves, or even dense metal tubes dropped from space by a weapon known as ``Rods from God''** on ground targets.

Newsweek Lied and People Died

Editorial: Damage to U.S./White House, look in the mirror
May 21, 2005

It is said by the White House that Newsweek magazine damaged U.S. standing abroad with its since-retracted, short report on Qur'an abuse at Guantánamo. Because reports of such abuse have abounded for years, and have been reconfirmed by the Red Cross, we doubt that very much. But there is something else to be said on this issue: If Newsweek's story caused damage, it is but a speck compared with the damage caused by this administration and its well-documented habit of abusing prisoners in Guantánamo, Iraq and Afghanistan.

The latest, infuriating evidence comes from a confidential file of the Army's criminal investigation into abuse at the Bagram Collection Point in Afghanistan, a copy of which was obtained by the New York Times and reported on Friday:

"Even as the young Afghan man was dying before them, his American jailers continued to torment him.

"The prisoner, a slight, 22-year-old taxi driver known only as Dilawar, was hauled from his cell at the detention center in Bagram, Afghanistan, at around 2 a.m. to answer questions about a rocket attack on an American base. When he arrived in the interrogation room, an interpreter who was present said, his legs were bouncing uncontrollably in the plastic chair and his hands were numb. He had been chained by the wrists to the top of his cell for much of the previous four days.

"Mr. Dilawar asked for a drink of water, and one of the two interrogators, Specialist Joshua R. Claus, 21, picked up a large plastic bottle. But first he punched a hole in the bottom, the interpreter said, so as the prisoner fumbled weakly with the cap, the water poured out over his orange prison scrubs. The soldier then grabbed the bottle back and began squirting the water forcefully into Mr. Dilawar's face.

" 'Come on, drink!' the interpreter said Specialist Claus had shouted, as the prisoner gagged on the spray. 'Drink!'

"At the interrogators' behest, a guard tried to force the young man to his knees. But his legs, which had been pummeled by guards for several days, could no longer bend. An interrogator told Mr. Dilawar that he could see a doctor after they finished with him. When he was finally sent back to his cell, though, the guards were instructed only to chain the prisoner back to the ceiling.

" 'Leave him up,' one of the guards quoted Specialist Claus as saying.

"Several hours passed before an emergency room doctor finally saw Mr. Dilawar. By then he was dead, his body beginning to stiffen."

The writer of that dramatic piece is Tim Golden. Will White House spokesman Scott McClellan now accuse him and his editors of also damaging American standing abroad?

This atrocity was committed in our name, each of us, our children and grandchildren. So was the abuse at Abu Ghraib. So was the abuse at Guantánamo. So was the fictional account of Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction used to justify an unnecessary war. So were the tens of thousands of Iraqi civilian deaths that war has caused. And White House officials have the gall to accuse Newsweek of damaging the name of this beloved nation?

The Complete Bushisms

Halliburton Watch

Blame it on Newsweek!

Weekly "news" magazine "Newsweek" published an article that stated that one of the many sins committed whilst at war was that U.S. troops allegedly threw a prisoner's Qur'an "down the toilet" at Gitmo. This morning the talk show circuit has its talking points blazing with the how dare they quote anonymous sources and how they're (Newsweek) to blame for this violence and that indiscretion. What a load of crap! It's perfectly fine to do the following: strip, fondle, sodomize (with glow sticks no less), make human pyramids with, assault with attack dogs, place underwear on heads (most probably soiled at that), beat, kick, blast with obnoxious music, drape in Israeli flags, smear with feces, stand on cartons with electrodes attached to limbs, chain up, deprive of sleep, the list goes on and on.... Oh, and I almost forgot to mention the DU - Depleted Uranium. Damn you Newsweek! Damn you!

Leave your tired and impotent clichés at the door.

The Glory of War

War is the devil's sacrament. It promises to bind us not with God but with the nation state. It grants not life but death. It provides not liberty but slavery. It lives not on truth but on lies, and these lies are themselves said to be worthy of defense. It exalts evil and puts down the good. It is promiscuous in encouraging an orgy of sin, not self-restraint and thought. It is irrational and bloody and vicious and appalling. And it claims to be the highest achievement of man.
